Tim Tebow and the Gospel

I'm sure you've heard of the six degrees of seperation. Basically, all of us are connected to each other through a 6 connections. I know someone your friend knows type of thing. (Even though the Tipping Point says it is smaller than 6 degrees).

When you think in terms of getting into a spiritual conversation, leading into sharing the gospel with someone this six degrees law comes in very handy. Just have 6 topics you are comfortable with where you can easily transition into the gospel. For me, my job, being a missionary to college students is a very easy one for me, another is fear since that is a big part of my testimony.

But a unique one that the Lord has set up right now in this point in history is Tim Tebow.
Sunday was another big game with a comeback win. I am really not into football but am finding these games exciting to watch. And I'm not the only one, the rating for the Broncos games are through the roof. In part because of the last minute come backs but mostly because Tim Tebow is using his platform to give Jesus praise. It's causing controversy all over the US and causing people to think about if God really cares about things like football. It is an in your face glimpse of God opposing the proud and giving grace to the humble. A glimpse of the Lord humbling the proud and lifting up the humble.

Here's my point...
Austin took me on a date after the game and was able to share the gospel with our waiter just by talking about football and then talking about Tim Tebow. Talking about Tim Tebow easily lead into a the question, "What do you think about Tim Tebow's religious stance?" and "Where do you stand spiritually?" Then Austin used Ray Comforts evangelism training and asked "Do you consider yourself a good person?" and went on.

So basically, if you can get the conversation to Tim Tebow, you can get to the gospel.  And right now, he is #3 on google trends, so pretty much almost every person you have a conversation with is wanting to talk about Tim Tebow. So go for it!

Take the example of Tebow and walk by faith, not letting the fear of failure stop you and just initiate asking where people are at in their spiritual journey. And then you can just say something as simple as "Can I tell you my story?" or "Want to know how Tim Tebow got the way he is?" Then you can share how Tim was separated from God because he hadn't measured up to God's standard of perfection but he choose to recognize that and asked Jesus to forgive him and gave Him the control of his life. Then God started changing him from the inside out and made him the man of strong character and courage he is today.

Go ahead try it! The measure of success is obedience, not perfection and not the results.
Let me know via comment how it goes.

And will you pass this on with twitter and facebook so we can capitalize on this incredible opportunity right now to join God in what He is doing?
