My Ministry is About Him

Last week I was pretty discouraged in reflecting on the past 10 years of ministry to college students. My passion is to send laborers to the harvest. As I think back through the years it is discouraging to me that though many have come to Christ and many have grown tremndously in their faith, not many have been mobilized, sent to the unreached.

Last week we showed this video as part of a video montage (a bunch of you tube clips that lay out the gospel-Greatness of God and His Creation, sin, Jesus and the cross and then our mission given) at our weekly meeting. Awesome videos causing the ache in my heart for the lost to be reached to buldge.
In a discussion group after the videos, I voiced, "I so much want to go, and it makes me wonder, why are we not there?" Students answer, "Look at how great this is (the weekly mtg) and it's because of you." But the reality is, anybody can do our job here if given training. Not anybody will go to the unreached. Another says, "But you have kids and they take a lot of time." But the reality is, the unreached have kids too. Having kids in another country is different, not impossible.

I told Austin about my discouragement and through our discussion, the Lord reminded me that I don't do what I do because of the fruit but out of obedience. He  called us here, to reach the lost students of Denver, to evangelize, establish, equip and mobilize them to go. I need to do that because it is what the Lord wants of me.

Our calling/job/ministry (whichever word you'd prefer to use) is not about me, it's about Him. He is the One that sends. He is the Lord of the Harvest, not me. How self-serving to abandon His call because I don't get to see the fruit I want to. All I can do is take the initative in the power of the Holy Spirit to do what He told me to do and leave the results up to Him.

Then I can say I didn't waste it. (this video is awesome!)
How easy it is to be driven and contrlled by impulse and emotion.

Many who are called to live in a most closed country are not there, but here. We have it backwards, we think, "I will stay unless I'm called." But really, all are already called to Go and we should only stay unless we are specifically called to do so.

And this brings me back to what I wrote about the mighty men who honored and valued their king David so highly. How they went to get him water because that is what he desired, what he longed for. And our King, the Great, Creator and Mighty King thirsts for souls. He passionately wants them to know Him. Our mission is about Him. As easy as it is to make it about us, for me to make it about me and getting to see fruit. It's just not. Even if I never see the Lord of the harvest use me to send one more laborer to the harvest, I will fetch what my King desires, I will do as He longs me to do for His pleasure, not mine.

Not About Me November

I'm so excited to start Not About Me November and look forward to being on a journey together as we see God transform our hearts and minds as we behold Him and reflect on everything in life being about Him, not us.

Laura,
I think I did the last linky link wrong. It seems to go to "home" on my website instead of to the individual post. I'm going to do it over. Sorry for the duplicate. I don't know if you can delete the last one.(#3)

"I will do what he longs me to do for his pleasure, not mine" - Oh, what convicting words! I am constantly learning to remember that, to do that. I am excited to participate in the not about me november -- even if no one on this planet reads my blog, I'm certain God has special things in mind for those of us focusing on him like special insights into his character and word, so I'm going for it. Thanks for the prompting

Our service to him is never about us nor for us to make a name for ourselves and be praised and become famous because of what we do. But we've been created, formed, made - for His glory.

He supplies everything we need for us to be able to carry out His plans and purposes - it's His anointing, His inspiration, His wisdom - that NO ONE should boast nor glory.

(I wanted to contribute in the comment section because I haven't prepared an article for the challenge).

I'm back bragging on God, Laura. Thanks for hosting.
